Partnerships for Sustainable Consumption

Global Compact in practice: Brochures and workshops supported by Volkswagen

"Sustainable consumption" is gaining momentum as a subject that occupies society at large as well as corporate areas of action and this is not just in light of the quotes from LOHAS consumers (LOHAS = Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability). The increased focus on the utilization phase of products and services promises strategic benefits, however, these often require partnerships to be formed between the main players from finance, politics and civil society.

This interface is highlighted from the corporate point of view in the publication "Partnerships for Sustainable Consumption". Following an introduction to "Sustainable Consumption", five types of partnership are showcased, each one accompanied by four practical examples. These examples demonstrate the wide variety of shapes teamwork can take and thus illustrate the opportunities associated with them. The aim of the publication is ultimately to stir up interest in recreating this and developing the field of cooperative partnerships.

The publication is the result of a series of workshops held by Global Compact Network Germany (Deutsches Global Compact Netzwerk-DGCN) and is also the product of a partnership. The prestigious UNEP/Wuppertal Institute Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSCP) has created this practical aid hand in hand with Volkswagen, as well as the Gesamtverband der Aluminiumindustrie (Association of the Aluminium Industry-GDA), Henkel and GTZ.
