Volkswagen employees in Wolfsburg more creative than ever before

Suggestions for improvement up 25%

Volkswagen employees in Wolfsburg submitted a total of 16,827 ideas last year, showing complete dedication to corporate improvements and cost savings. Pirka Falkenberg, who heads up the ideas management team in Wolfsburg, and works council representative Klaus Schneck, summed up the situation at today's presentation of the 2009 annual report. Falkenberg revealed: "The positive trend in ideas management in Wolfsburg continued in 2009. Participation was up by 25% on the previous year".

"Ideas management plays a key role in the Volkswagen way of thinking, thereby contributing to the company's long-term success", emphasised Falkenberg. Wherever change processes are underway, there is always room for new ideas. Last year, suggestions submitted by employees led to savings of some EUR 95 million and as recognition of this, these employees were the recipients of bonuses worth EUR 5.6 million.

Works council representative Schneck emphasised: "Awareness of enhanced quality and better processes is growing and shows that our employees are ready to play a creative part in securing their jobs and increasing our competitiveness". This was reflected in the variety of suggestions submitted by various Volkswagen departments. "Innovative ideas are not only effective within Production, but also within administrative areas. The employees here are the true experts and can identify any room for improvement on a day-to-day basis", continues Schneck.
