Volkswagen becomes latest partner of the "Niedersachsen Allianz für Nachhaltigkeit"

Initiative presents its goals in Brussels

Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft presented the "Niedersachen Allianz für Nachhaltigkeit" [The Lower Saxony alliance for sustainability] together with the Lower Saxony state government and Salzgitter AG in Brussels today.
The alliance is an initiative created by corporations, trade associations, trade unions and the Lower Saxony state government. The aim of this initiative is to increase the innovative ability of Lower Saxony and to promote environmentally friendly economic growth. Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft has been a partner of the alliance since March 2010.

Head of CSR Coordination and Sustainability at the Volkswagen Group, Dr. Gerhard Prätorius, said: "Sustainable structural development in our regions is extremely important to the Volkswagen Group. This applies in particular to our home region of Lower Saxony. From our point of view, promoting location factors such as training and research is just as important as protecting the environment. This is why we are supporting the 'Niedersachsen Allianz für Nachhaltigkeit' in our capacity as a partner."

Realising corporate responsibility and sustainable corporate management is part of the corporate structure at the Volkswagen group. For example, the group is involved in the "World Business Council for Sustainable Development" (WBCSD), "CSR Europe" and "econsense", the forum for sustainable development of German business. It is also represented in various sustainability indexes.
At today's event held at the Lower Saxony representative office in Brussels, Dr. Gerhard Prätorius and representatives from the Lower Saxon ministries for the environment and climate protection, the European parliament, the Boston Consulting Group and Salzgitter Stahl GmbH reported on the promotion of sustainable economic activity in Europe.

The "Niedersachsen Allianz für Nachhaltigkeit" was established in 2008. In addition to the Lower Saxon ministries for the economy and the environment, its members include various corporations, trade associations and the Confederation of German Trade Unions of Lower Saxony, Bremen and Saxony-Anhalt. The aim of the initiative is to promote the economy in Lower Saxony, to protect the local environment and nature, to improve living and working conditions, and to maintain social cohesion.
