Volkswagen Group expects good first half of 2010

Unit sales and operating profit at the Volkswagen Group have considerably outperformed expectations in the first five months of the current year. The positive business development was due in particular to strong demand for Group models in key markets such as Western Europe, China and North America. In addition, exchange rate effects among other factors had a positive impact on profit. This trend looks set to continue in June.

However, business development in the second half of 2010 still entails uncertainties. Especially in light of the fierce competition and an overall difficult environment, 2010 will remain a challenging year for the automotive industry.

Nevertheless it is expected that the previous year’s figures for unit sales (6.3 million vehicles) and operating profit (EUR 1.9 billion) will be significantly exceeded.
