Volkswagen redesigns its Environmental Commendations
Documenting reductions in consumption and emissions
The Volkswagen Group is redesigning its Environmental Commendations. The product brochure, which was previously spread over 16 pages, has now been condensed to 6 pages. A new addition is a 24-page basic brochure informing readers about the reasons behind the Environmental Commendations and how they are produced.
As part of the environmental audits, Volkswagen analyses the entire lifecycle of new vehicles, drive systems, components and materials — starting with the design phase, then moving onto production and usage, through to disposal. The environmental audits are intended to help designers create vehicles, components and production processes that consider the environment more — step by step, piece by piece.
The Volkswagen Environmental Commendations include information about the improvements made to the environmental audits. The results published in these audits are verified by independent testing bodies prior to publication. Günter Damme, Head of Environment, says: "Our objective is to provide the public with transparent and comprehensive information about the environmental progress of our vehicles. Life Cycle Assessments are a key measurement scale in our bid to continue improving products and production."
Environmental Commendations currently provide information on the Golf, Polo, Passat, Caddy and Transporter as well as on the DSG gearbox and TSI engines.
