Volkswagen Group Rus collecting waste paper for Earth Day
Volkswagen Group Rus announced International Earth Day on April 22 to be the day of waste paper collecting in its office in Moscow and plant in Kaluga. All employees were suggested to bring used documents, work notices, and newspapers from their homes and offices. The paper will be collected in a centralized way and then sent to specialized plants for recycling.
Volunteers explain to those who are interested the procedures and rules of waste products recycling and the environmental impact which may be caused by a failure to respect such rules.
“As representatives of the modern automobile industry, we believe that our duty is, besides introducing new technologies in Russia, to inform our employees about the environmental impact of human activities and industries and to create an environmentally conscious mentality. While in Germany, separate waste collection and waste paper recycling became a part of everyday life long ago, people in Russia are just beginning to think about it,” — explains Markus Osegowitsch, General Director of Volkswagen Group Rus.
Earth Day is celebrated every year on April 22 in more than 150 countries; its purpose is to make people review their attitude as consumers. Celebrated in U.S. since 1970, Earth Day became international in 1990. In 2009, the United Nations General Assembly declared April 22 International Mother Earth Day.
The Volkswagen brand in Russia has joined the Think Blue. Think Innovative global program, encouraging active implementation of innovative ecological technologies and eco-driving.
