Frank Witter, Board of Management of Volkswagen Financial Services AG. Stephan Weil, Senior Mayor of Hannover, and Christian Klingler, Board of Management Sales and Marketing Volkswagen AGThe car sharing project "Quicar – Share a Volkswagen" is being launched in Hanover on November 16. Volkswagen is making 200 specially branded Golf BlueMotion models available for short-term rental, initially from 50 stations distributed throughout the city area. A further 70 vehicles are to be available for longer-term rental under the "Quicar Plus" program. Both schemes feature high vehicle availability, a flexible, low-cost tariff system and ease of use.

In mid-November, the project will start: 200 Golf BlueMotion cars with blue and white Quicar branding are to be available for rent at central locations in Hanover. Apart from the short-term rental scheme, Volkswagen is also offering "Quicar Plus", a longer-term rental scheme with 70 vehicles. "Volkswagen and car sharing go together outstandingly well. Quicar will make individual urban mobility possible for many people ranging from students to large families and trade customers. Quicar also demonstrates just how functional, efficient and inexpensive mobility made by Volkswagen can be," says Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand. He adds: "With Quicar, we intend to become a key factor in urban mobility in Hanover."

The city of Hanover welcomes the start of "Quicar". Stephan Weil, Mayor of Hanover, underlines: "Volkswagen's car sharing scheme is ideally well-suited for Hanover. It supplements the city's mobility concept, which is based on an environmentally compatible mix of all means of transport. In a large city with an outstanding public transport system, short-term rental schemes featuring environmentally compatible cars are the ideal supplement."

The Quicar fleet consists of 200 Golf BlueMotion vehicles. They feature a 1.6-liter TDI diesel engine with an average fuel consumption of a mere 3.8 liters per 100 kilometers, corresponding to CO2 emissions of only 99 grams per kilometer, which makes Quicar one of the most efficient car sharing fleets available.

Quicar vehicles will be available at up to 50 locations dotted all over the city, in specially marked parking spaces and multi-storey car parks. In the medium term, the number is to reach more than 100.

The Quicar tariff system is attractively priced and transparent, making it easy for customers to keep a close eye on costs. A first-time registration fee of 25 euros is payable to sign up with the Quicar Shop. Students only pay 15 euros.

The minimum rental time under "Quicar" is 30 minutes, with a charge of six euros for the first 30 minutes and 20 cents for each additional minute. Fuel and insurance are included in the rental charge. If the car is parked, the rental is reduced to 10 cents per minute. All the cars will have fully comprehensive insurance. Customers who fill up with fuel themselves will be rewarded with a time credit for their next rental. A fuel card located in the glove compartment can be used to fill up the car free of charge.

The new Volkswagen Beetle as „Quicar""Quicar Plus" is a supplementary scheme offering a wider range of vehicles and longer rentals. The minimum rental period for Quicar Plus is ten hours, which means that Quicar Plus is better suited to longer trips. The vehicles available include two of the latest Volkswagen models. The up! is available for 30 Euros from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. For the same period, the new Beetle costs 40 euros.
