Navigation in the networked world of today and tomorrow
Individual mobility is an expression of human freedom. For many, it is essential for participating in the ever-more dynamic world of work; for almost everyone, mobility and leisure are inseparable. Individual mobility is thus an important part of our personal quality of life. The car meets our mobility demands like no other form of transport – and is therefore the most successful means of transportation of all time.
For the traveler, mobility itself is not the only factor; how the journey is made is more important – after all, driving is about much more than just reaching the destination as quickly as possible. Driving pleasure is a defining factor. Today’s navigation systems already bring a new ease to every journey. We can rely on reaching our destination and we can be certain of finding every spontaneous destination as well. And we are given traffic information support on familiar routes, too. The task for the near future is to combine new approaches to mobile communication with vehicle navigation, thus bringing even greater pleasure to every driving experience.
The Volkswagen Group always orients its ongoing development of navigation systems to the growing wishes and needs of its customers. We respond to people’s interest in new places and new experiences by seeking to make the time spent traveling as lively and entertaining as possible. Navigation provides in-depth information about the route to remove the characterless anonymity of the regions traveled; driver and passengers are offered a broader, more informative perspective. By stimulating an awareness of places, people and their culture, travel becomes a proactive and emotional experience. In future, routes will also be adapted to the needs of the user. Information on places of interest, leisure activities and restaurants will be tailored to individual preferences. At the same time, mobile communication will in future facilitate access to the full range of information available on the internet. We place special emphasis on developing a system that is inspiring, easy to operate and oriented to the driver and the travel situation.
Navigation systems evolve into personal travel assistants with intuitive access to diverse information on the surroundings. Navigation thus becomes the mobile portal to our networked world.
