Tree by tree for the climate

With two new reforestation projects, Volkswagen is making an active contribution to the protection of the climate and environment in Spain and the USA: In Alcaraz in southern Spain, Volkswagen plants 17 trees for every Polo BlueMotion sold in the country. This helps to create a habitat for a wide variety of plants and animals in previously wooded regions. The planted trees retain approximately the same amount of CO2 from the environment as is created by a Polo BlueMotion at a driving performance of 50 000 km.

Global partnership for a billion trees
The project is run in cooperation with WWF Spain and UNEP and has been incorporated in the programme "Plant for the Planet: Billion Tree Campaign". The campaign is also supported by the Ministry of the Environment in Spain.

Alluvial forest on the Mississippi A second reforestation project is run by Volkswagen of America Inc. on the lower Mississippi in Alluvial Valley. Volkswagen of America is financing climate-friendly driving for all its customers in the final quarter of 2007 for one whole year. Our partner Carbonfund, www.carbonfund.org is investing money in this region in North East Louisiana, where a speciose damp biotope is being recreated over 1.100 hectares. These measures are helping to create a perfect habitat for black bears and many other species.
