Clean Diesel Cooperation in the USA
At the Los Angeles Auto Show the Volkswagen Group and DaimlerChrysler Launch a Bluetec Partnership.
The aim of the partnership is to establish the term Bluetec as the uniform name for clean and low-consumption cars and SUVs with diesel engines. The Volkswagen Group wants to release Bluetec vehicles on the market under the VW and Audi brands.
Bluetec denotes diesel drives that comply with even the strictest emissions regulations of the US market. The technologies used and individually developed by each manufacturer serve to reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) in particular – the only exhaust components that lie above the rates of gasoline engines due to the conceptual design of diesel engines.
The first model to be powered by a completely newly developed diesel engine will be the VW Tiguan presented at Los Angeles as a study. Volkswagen will use a modular concept of various systems in this diesel of the future in order to clearly reduce emissions once again. For example, one of these engine systems uses a NOx catalytic converter and thus achieves a good 90 percent reduction in NOx emissions for the whole system compared to the vehicles popular today. With the clean TDI engine Volkswagen and Audi will be able to meet the strictest exhaust gas standards in the world in the USA.
