August sales rise 12.1 percent, strongest monthly growth so far for Volkswagen brand

The first eight months bring 8.3 percent rise worldwide

The brand will deliver more than 3.5 million vehicles in 2007

With a worldwide sales increase of 12.1 percent, August saw the strongest monthly growth so far this year for the Volkswagen brand, even outstripping the previous record-holding month of July (plus 10.5 percent). A total of 286,000 vehicles were delivered during the eighth month of the year, bringing an 8.3 percent rise in January – August sales compared with the same period last year. Customers around the world bought 2.4 million VW passenger cars.

“Both August and the first eight months of this year have thus brought new sales records. By year-end, the Volkswagen brand will have delivered over 3.5 million vehicles, more than ever before,” Dr. Michael Kern, member of the Volkswagen brand board of management with responsibility for Sales and Marketing, commented.

Of the ten biggest individual markets worldwide for the Volkswagen brand, Brazil achieved the biggest improvement in sales figures, reaching 29.9 percent between January and August 2007. More than 305,000 VW models were delivered here. This was followed by China, also Volkswagen’s largest individual market, with a plus of 27.4 percent (514,000 deliveries) as well as Argentina with an increase of 21.3 percent (69,500 deliveries).
