Volkswagen Group increases global car sales from January through September 2007 by 8.2 percent

New record: 4.61 million vehicles delivered in the first nine months Substantial growth in South America, Asian-Pacific region and Central and Eastern Europe

The Volkswagen Group delivered 4.61 million vehicles world-wide between January and September 2007, setting a new record for the first nine months of a year. This corresponds to an increase of 8.2 percent compared to the same period last year. September likewise demonstrated a new record for the same month in any year: 545,500 vehicles sold mean an increase of 6.5 percent compared to September 2006.

Group car sales in Europe between January and September 2007 rose by 2.8 percent to 2.71 million vehicles, 2.35 million of which were sold in Western Europe (an increase of 0.6 percent). This more than offset the decline of 3.7 percent in Germany, the largest single market (769,000 deliveries). In Central and Eastern Europe, customers bought 358,000 cars, an increase of 20.5 percent.

In the Asian-Pacific region, the Volkswagen Group delivered 790,000 vehicles, 25.9 percent more than in the first nine months of last year. Of these, 685,000 cars were sold in China alone, 30.2 percent more than in the previous year.

Volkswagen Group sales on the American continents improved likewise. Deliveries to customers in South America rose by 29.1 percent to 534,000 vehicles, of which 412,000 sales were made in Brazil for an increase of 31.2 percent. In North America, 395,000 vehicles were sold, representing a 0.2 percent increase. In the USA, 247,000 vehicles were sold resulting in a decline of 0.3 percent.

Volkswagen, the Group member with the greatest volume, delivered 2.73 million vehicles to customers around the world between January and September of this year, an increase of 8.2 percent over the same period last year. With 741,000 vehicles sold, Audi likewise achieved a substantial increase of 8.3 percent. Skoda showed a healthy increase of 12.6 percent to 462,000 vehicles. Seat attained 319,500 sales, a decline of 1.3 percent. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles managed significant growth of 11.4 percent to 356,000 vehicles sold. Bentley and Lamborghini rounded out the new sales record for the Group with 7,800 deliveries for 18.7 percent growth and 1,800 deliveries for a 20.0 percent increase, respectively. With the sales of 59 vehicles, Bugatti more than doubled its volume.
