Volkswagen Greatly Expanding Further Training for Staff
The company offers study support and specialist scholarship
This year, for the first time Volkswagen will offer its employees in Germany 100 specialist scholarships. Furthermore, 79 places for study support will be granted. In this way, Volkswagen is greatly expanding the support for members of staff who want to gain external qualifications.
"With the specialist scholarship and study support we have created two very interesting programmes. They help to increase the qualifications of our employees", emphasises the Personnel Director of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, Dr Horst Neumann. "In this way we are pushing forward the expansion of our top team and increasing our attractiveness as an employer."
The deputy corporate and overall works council chairman, Bernd Wehlauer, notes: "Training is the key to maintaining employability. It is therefore especially important to me to facilitate personal further development for our colleagues. With this new regulation, we are giving an additional opportunity to everyone who wants to do something personal for himself or herself."
The study support helps employees who are completing a course of study at a university or polytechnic. The specialist scholarship is aimed at further training outside university, for example Chamber of Commerce qualifications. The grant in both schemes is € 800 per month. Furthermore, with the specialist scholarship it is possible to receive an additional interest-free loan of € 800 per month. The study support is paid for the duration of the standard study period, the specialist scholarship is designed for the period of further training. During the training, the employees are released from the company and are given a pledge of re-employment.
Volkswagen still continues the very well received "Study in Practice Alliance" for A-level students. In addition to studies at university, the participants attain an apprenticeship qualification that they acquire at Volkswagen. They receive a monthly salary from the company; furthermore, Volkswagen pays the tuition fees in the amount of € 500. Currently, 655 young people are taking part in this programme.
