The company has a presence in 75 countries and employs over 15,000 people. The company’s unit sales increased to 494.000 units in the reporting year. This was 2.1% more than in the previous year. This figure also includes the A1 manufactured for Audi. The CUPRA Formentor, SEAT Arona and SEAT Ibiza recorded high demand. Despite the challenges due to the shortage of semiconductors, SEAT and CUPRA produced 424 thousand vehicles in the reporting period (+ 4.2 Percent yearon-year) and sold 470,500 vehicles (+ 10.3 Percent increase on 2020) – thanks to CUPRA and the demand for electrified models.
CUPRA was born in 2018 as the unconventional challenger that combines emotion, electrification, and performance to inspire the world from Barcelona. The range of vehicles is based on a contemporary interpretation of performance and design.
In 2021, the brand brought its first fully electric vehicle to market. The CUPRA Born, which has garnered important awards and positive reviews across Europe, marks the start of a new era. Based on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, it has a maximum range of up to 540 km. The model is available in two powertrain variants: 110 kW (150 PS) and 150 kW (204 PS). The latter comes with an e-Boost performance option that can increase the power output to 170 kW (231 PS).
In term of sales, and despite the semiconductor crisis, in 2021 CUPRA maintained its upward trend, tripling sales with 79,000 vehicles delivered, which represents a growth of 189.6%, driven by success of the CUPRA Formentor. Demand for the Formentor has exceeded all expectations and it has quickly become one of the company’s best-selling models, representing almost the 70% of the CUPRA cars sold last year.
CUPRA proves that electrification and performance are a perfect match, and in 2022 its range will expand via models with different battery capacities, as well as a more powerful e-Boost. An exclusive, limited-edition version of the CUPRA Formentor VZ5 will also be introduced. The CUPRA Tavascan, the brand’s second all-electric model, will reach the market in 2024, followed by the brand’s first urban electric car, inspired by the CUPRA UrbanRebel concept, in 2025.
