Volkswagen Group provides active support for use of electric cars: 50 e-Golf (1) vehicles handed over in Hamburg
- Members of the public, entrepreneurs and employees of authorities switch to the eco-friendly e-Golf
- Zero-emission electric cars improve air quality and reduce noise in cities
- Initiative is part of the partnership between Volkswagen and the Hanseatic City of Hamburg
In Hamburg, 50 members of the public, entrepreneurs and employees of authorities will benefit from e-mobility from today onwards. The Volkswagen Group has handed over 50 e-Golf cars. Over the next three years, they are expected to drive around 1,5 million kilometers through Hamburg with the environmentally compatible e-Golf silently and with zero emissions. The initiative is part of the partnership between the Volkswagen Group and the City of Hamburg. Through this initiative, the Group is also making a contribution to the
nationwide penetration of e-mobility in Germany.
At the handing-over ceremony, Ludger Fretzen, Head of Group Strategy for New Business of the Volkswagen Group, said: “With these 50 e-Golf cars the new owners make a contribution for better air quality. The objective of our partnership with Hamburg is to make urban mobility more environmentally compatible and more efficient. That is also in line with our Roadmap E.”
Frank Horch, Senator for Economy, Transport and Innovation in Hamburg, said: “More and more people involved in business administration in Hamburg and also a growing number of members of the public are prepared to organize their mobility in a way which is non-polluting and to switch to zero-emission electric vehicles. The fact that we have today been able to hand over 50 electric vehicles to these future-oriented users on behalf of all these people clearly shows that awareness is being transformed into practical action.”
The 50 e-Golf were handed over as part of the partnership between the Volkswagen Group and the City of Hamburg. Together, the partners aim to shape the sustainable urban mobility of the future and are committed to the use of electric drives for both passenger cars and buses. The use of these 50 electric cars under the e-Drive Hamburg 2018 program is supported by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure.
With the “Roadmap E”, the Volkswagen Group set itself the target of increasing the share of electric vehicles in total vehicle sales to about 25% by 2025. That corresponds to between 2 and 3 million electric vehicles delivered per year. For this purpose, the Group brands will be offering 80 new electric models to customers by 2025. By 2030 at the latest, the Volkswagen Group intends to electrify its entire model portfolio.
