SEAT receives the European Sport and Healthy Company 2019 award
- The prize was given by the European Healthy Companies Association at a ceremony held at the European Parliament in Brussels
- The award recognises SEAT as a company that is committed to health policies by promoting physical activity and good health among its employees
- SEAT was also recently issued the ISO 45001 standard, which certifies its occupational health and safety management system
At a ceremony held at the European Parliament, SEAT received the European Sport and Healthy Company 2019 award from the European Healthy Companies Association, made up of DCH – International Organization of Human Capital Directors and the ACES Europe association. This is the first European level prize received by the company, and it highlights the work carried out by SEAT as an organisation that is committed to health policies and promoting physical activity and good health among its employees.
The award ceremony, which coincided with the European Capital and City of Sport 2019 award, was attended by members of the European Parliament, ministers, mayors and authorities from EU member nations.
Dr. Patricia Such, who is responsible for Occupational Health and Safety at SEAT, said “we are very proud to receive our first recognition as a company that stands out in the area of health in Europe. This award supports the work we do to advance our workers’ health, safety and well-being, which has led to projects such as CARS, the creation of the Healthy Company Scientific Committee or the MedCARS scientific study, which will soon produce results.”
DCH – International Organization of Human Capital Directors and the ACES Europe association created the European Sport and Healthy Company award in 2016, with the aim of acknowledging the effort made by companies, such as SEAT, in promoting sport and health among their employees. In order to be considered for the award, companies must have an occupational health department on the premises, provide sports facilities and specific action programmes for their employees with regards to health and sports. Once they have been accepted as candidates, the organisation monitors the project for the following three years, during which time they request information from the company and pay an annual site visit to the facilities.
SEAT, certified in health and safety
SEAT also recently received certification for its occupational health and safety management system according to the new ISO 45001 standard, becoming the first company in the automotive sector to have it issued. This certification recognises that the health and safety activities are aligned with the company’s long-term strategy and are taken into consideration at all organisational levels. Furthermore, the company has renewed the Healthy Company certification it received in 2015.
The turning point in worker care came in 2017 with the inauguration of the CARS Healthcare and Rehabilitation Centre, the only facility of its kind in Spain, after SEAT made the a record investment of 3.5 million euros aimed at enhancing employee health. In the centre’s first year of operation, more than 60,000 health interventions were carried out, 9 cases of early stage cancer and 16 cases of heart disease were detected, and 94 orthopaedic surgeries were performed without a waiting list.
Thanks to everything the company is doing to advance the health and well-being of its workers, the Foment del Treball employer association gave SEAT the Special Jury Prize for its health and safety management model at the 9th edition of the ATLANTE awards. The organisation placed special emphasis on the creation of CARS and the true integration of occupational medicine in the company.
