MOIA temporarily suspends ridepooling service due to coronavirus

  • From April 1st MOIA will temporarily pause in Hamburg and Hannover
  • MOIA applies for short-time work for in order to preserve jobs
  • Measures serve to protect the company and the workforce

The ridepooling service MOIA will temporarily suspend its services in Hamburg and Hanover from 1st April. The company is taking this action in response to the corona crisis and the restrictions in public life, which have resulted in a drastic reduction in demand for rides. MOIA expects a further decline in demand in the coming days and weeks.

This measure is intended to protect the company and the workforce from the economic consequences of the pandemic and to avoid layoffs. At the same time, it serves to protect the drivers who would stay longer and more frequently than usual at the hubs in the absence of demand. On the basis of the Federal Government's guidelines for further restricting social contacts, MOIA is thereby helping to protect the workforce in this critical phase of the pandemic and to contain the spread of the coronavirus. MOIA's offering will be gradually reduced in the remaining days.

In order to preserve jobs, MOIA is applying for short-time work for around 900 employees of the MOIA Operations Germany GmbH from April onwards. The necessity of short-time work will be constantly reviewed and the measure will be stopped at short notice if the situation improves.

In addition to suspending operations, MOIA has taken a number of other measures to protect its workforce: among other things, a stop on business trips has been imposed and office employees are advised to work from home. Moreover, the two hubs in Hamburg will be organizationally separated and drivers will be assigned to fixed groups until the start of the suspension.
