Plug-in hybrid vehicles and the eco-bonus

Car buyers in Germany have until 31 December 2025 to benefit from the eco-bonus when purchasing a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) – assuming adequate incentives are still available by then. The amount of the subsidy depends on the net list price of the selected model. In addition, PHEVs must fulfil at least one of the following two strict requirements:

  • CO₂ emissions must not exceed 50 g per km.
  • The pure electric minimum range at present is at least 40 km – and is set to increase to 60 km from 1 January 2022.

Because the registration date of the vehicle is a critical aspect for the subsidy, it makes sense at this stage to look at what models are available from the Group brands. The good news: Numerous PHEVs already fulfil the range requirements that will come into force after 2022 and some also the CO2 requirements additionally.
