Relatively few cars today possess a cult status. One of these is an MPV: the Multivan from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. Extremely versatile – in commercial use too, for example as a mobile conference room – thanks to adjustable seats in the rear and an additional table module. A modern classic, in fact. And yet absolutely contemporary: thanks to a complete makeover.
Newly designed generation
Perhaps the biggest change: the Multivan is based for the first time on the modular transverse matrix (MQB) from Volkswagen. In technical terms, this is a major leap forward: the addition of a plug-in hybrid (eHybrid; near-series concept car) to the varied drive program alongside modern TDI and TSI engines is truly unprecedented in this model series. Advantage: the Multivan can also drive with zero local emissions in all-electric mode in the future.
What’s more, the new development stage of the T1 will incorporate the latest assistance, operating and infotainment systems into the product series. The unique design DNA of the T1 has undergone evolutionary development: no other MPV has been built for more than 70 years and optically polished like a diamond generation after generation. This is why the new Multivan is immediately recognisable as a descendant of the legendary first-generation Transporter.
